Cusco City Tour (Half Day)

This half day tour of Cusco City will give you a completely new impression of this beautiful cradle of Inca civilization.

Cusco is a city with a special charm, whose Spanish Colonial and Inca structures tell an epic tale of the rise and fall of two great empires. During this 4 to 5 hour tour, you’ll visit the most significant Inca ruins in and around Cusco, as well as appreciate the grandeur of the main square and cathedral.

You will be collected from your hotel at 1:30 PM to begin touring Cusco’s historical monuments, with transportation between the sites provided by private bus. In the Plaza de Armas (main square) of Cusco, we’ll see the 17th century baroque cathedral built on the site where Inca Wiracocha’s palace once stood, partially constructed with stones taken from Sacsayhuamán. The cathedral boasts an altar of solid silver, paintings by the lauded Cusco School (including Zapata’s "Last Supper", that depicts Andean guinea pig gracing the table), the largest bell in South America, known as the María Angola, and various chapels filled with masterworks of precious materials, including the Señor de Temblores (Lord of the Earthquakes), once credited with saving Cusco from the great earthquake of 1650.

We’ll then turn backwards in time to the ancient religious center and most sacred spot in Cusco during Inca times, Qoricancha (Golden Temple), the Temple of the Sun. Here, offerings were made to the supreme Inca deity, Inti (Sun). Though its gold was looted by the Spanish, you’ll still get a chance to see some of the finest Inca stonework in Cusco.

We’ll then move along the outskirts of the city, where you’ll marvel at the massive stones which form Sacsayhuaman before we continue on to Qenqo, a shrine dedicated to the earth deity Pachamama. We will next visit Tambomachay (Resting Place), the “Inca Baths” with its artificial waterfalls, canals, and aqueducts supplied by local springs that run through the terraced rocks, and Puka Pucara, believed to have been a fortress protecting the entry to Tambomachay.

Afterwards, you will be dropped off back at your hotel at around 6 PM.
